Update from Campuhan College - BALI Outreach

In February, a young 16 year old California High School student came forward with a dream of helping educationally disadvantaged children in Bali.

To meet this opportunity Campuhan College established the three year full time student program between the USA and Bali Outreach.

Since February students from the California High School have raised sufficient funds for the first eight students to start classes.

The scholarship program was officially launched by three California students who visited Ubud to meet their nominated Balinese students and present the College with the funding.

The number of accepted candidates for the three year scholarship program is now 20 students, coming from the four different regions around Ubud.

Scholarship funding is available at this time for 8 students only. A further 12 students require funding before semester commences in August.

As the program develops and with the students being sponsored by schools, churches and service clubs in the USA, our objective at Bali Outreach will be to develop this program into a full student interchange program between Bali and the USA.

UP COMING EVENTS IN JULY

11 - 14 July

Workshop will be conducted for IT teachers with very basic skill levels around the Gianyar region. The workshop hosted by Campuhan College will be attended by at least 40 teachers.

They will be given computer training particularly on Internet, networking and the World Wide Web. The main purpose of this event is to assist these teachers to be better qualified as computer training teachers in their field of work. The main problem that they have been facing to date is that while the schools have the computers, the teachers are without the expertise to use maximize them effectively.

This event is a great opportunity for us to promote our wonderful projects, so that more and more people are getting benefit from it. The teachers are all very excited and very much looking forward to attending this event.

PROJECTS FOR 2007

SELF DEVELOPMENT TRAINING COURSE FOR TEACHERS
The College has been offered a ‘ready made’ Self Development course created for use in Australian schools to provide motivation and personal awareness. This Course will be offered to our own English and Computer students as an optional course in late 2007 and commencing in 2008 a training program will be initiated to qualify Indonesian teachers in the presentation of the course to schools throughout Bali.

WOMEN ASSISTANCE
Suzanne is now organising for twenty sewing machines to be purchased and donated to poor rural communities to assist women in the manufacturing of their own clothing.

MICRO BANK
Bali Outreach will establish a fund to provide ‘micro banking’ services to give small inexpensive loans to establish selected graduate students of the College and rural village women in new business ventures. A fund of $25,000 - $50,000 is envisaged as being required to set this up on a full time basis.
