Background
Although many jobs are available for young people with computer and English skills in Bali, the jobs go unfilled for lack of qualified applicants. Karuna Bali Foundation, through its Campuhan College department, provides the necessary graphics design and English courses that will guarantee graduates employment. Of the last year's graduating class 15 % of the successful students opened their own small businesses upon graduation. Others, who were already employed, received salary increases due to their improved skills. Every graduate was gainfully employed.
About Karuna Bali Scholarship Program
Starting in August 2007, Karuna Bali establish a 1 year professional program on English and computer, with the aim to create computer professionals
which can supply the need of local bussiness or start their own bussiness. The students was selected from all around Bali, with priority for the bright students of poor family background. All scholarship students are carefully screened prior to selection. Each students was sponsored by private donors to cover their tuition fee (which in turn pays for the teacher salary and operational cost).
Scholarship students are required to perform community service as part of their graduation requirements. They have gone into rural elementary schools and shared IT and English expertise with not only students, but teachers as well, in Karuna Bali's Educational Assistance outreach program.
